Q: BYOK
Hi!
This was asked earlier, but the answer didn’t seem to make sense. For BYOK, people are asking if they can bring their own AI api keys (e.g. via openrouter) so that we can pay for the usage directly. Not bring their own Twilio, FB api keys etc.
The price per conversation is high without it, unless you’re selling higher ticket items imo.
The platform itself can’t really be used without AI credits and the credit amount is fairly low and one-off, so it doesn’t really seem very LTD-like.
Hope you consider BYOK and best of luck with your sale.

Oct 31, 2024A: We don't see BYOK as something for DM Champ, our goal is to be plug-and-play, unlike most other platforms. BYOK would go against this, and honestly, it wouldn't even make things much cheaper given the multiple models and processing we're doing.
Here's the thing - picking your own models sounds great in theory, but it's actually a huge headache we don't want to burden you with. We've spent months figuring out the perfect chain of AI models, testing different combinations, fine-tuning them specifically for sales conversations, and building guardrails to keep your brand voice consistent.
Letting users pick their own models would mean you'd have to:
Figure out which models work best together
Deal with compatibility issues
Test different combinations for sales effectiveness
Handle all the fine-tuning yourself
Monitor and adjust for changes in model behavior
Sign up for multiple API providers and manage different keys
Track usage and costs across different platforms
Deal with varying pricing structures and billing cycles
We've seen other platforms do this - they let users pick their models and basically say "good luck figuring it out!" That's not what we're about. We want you focusing on growing your business, not becoming an AI engineer.
Let's be real about the costs and where it makes sense: We have clients closing sales as low as $27 and still making it work because of high conversion rates. When you're converting 1 in 3 chats and spending $2-3 in credits per sale, the math works out even for lower-ticket items.
That said, I want to be completely honest here - if you're just looking for customer support automation (like answering "what are your hours?" or "how do I reset my password?"), DM Champ would be overkill. There are cheaper solutions out there for basic support. We built this for sales conversations that convert.
About the LTD aspect - we get why you might think that. But here's the reality - our regular users are paying up to $997 per month just for subscription to the software (excluding credits). Let's be honest about credits - we could do like others and:
Give you tiny monthly recurring credits like most others do (we all know that's just forcing you to upgrade or top up anyway)
Or give you high recurring credits and go bankrupt in a year like most AppSumo LTDs (we've all seen this happen)
Or do what we're doing: Give you lifetime access to an enterprise-grade platform and let you pay for what you actually use
We chose the sustainable path because we're building a real business, not a flash sale that disappears in a year.
That said, we're always looking at ways to make the platform more cost-effective for our users. But we won't compromise on the quality of conversations just to lower costs. We've seen what happens when platforms use cheaper models - it usually ends up costing more in lost sales than you save on credits. Someone suggested offering lifetime credit discounts for AppSumo users - we're actually looking into that.
