A game changer for online teachers
I've been teaching Portuguese online for nine years now, using Zoom for most of that time. I've also tried Skype, but it consistently presented issues. Zoom was a better option, though it was expensive and somewhat burdensome for a small business operator like myself. My goals aren't to expand to 30 teachers and 200 students; I just need a reliable tool for myself and my 20 weekly students.
Zoom was effective but costly, especially for additional features. Moreover, some of my students couldn't use Zoom due to their workplace policies or technical limitations, particularly on mobile devices. A browser-based solution is much simpler for them, and if it offers high-quality video, even better.
Now, let's talk about Meetn, the platform I've recently switched to. What drew me to upgrade to their tier two was the transparency and straightforwardness of the company. Their website features helpful text bubbles, like one advising that good lighting improves image quality—a helpful tip that no other company had pointed out. Another bubble suggested using a blur background while they enhance their virtual background feature. This honest communication makes me feel like I'm dealing with real people, which is refreshing in today's corporate environment.
Meetn has everything I need. My students can join classes through a dedicated link, and I have full control over the session, including who can enter or needs to be removed. The platform allows me to share my screen, but I prefer using the upload widget. It lets me upload videos before class, which are processed into high-quality playback that I can play without disrupting the class flow. This feature is more efficient than toggling between screens and tabs.
Additionally, when I upload PDFs, Meetn converts them into images. It was unfamiliar at first, but easy once I got used to it. Since I work with another teacher, I can set up everything in advance. They just need to show up, and all the materials are ready. Assigning host roles is also straightforward.
The widgets are a highlight, but there's more. Since I chose Tier 2, I also have access to webinar features. While I don't often host webinars, it's nice to have the option. I recorded a short video, and the system processed it into a replayable event, which could be useful for marketing and training in the future.
Meetn also supports live streaming, crucial for showing my students and potential clients that I'm approachable and real. I don't need extensive streaming features—just enough to share videos, chat, and stream my camera. Meetn covers all these needs.
I'm amazed by the value Meetn provides for the price. It's incredibly affordable, and I found it on AppSumo at the right time. I hope Meetn stays around for a long time because this month, I'm officially switching from Zoom. My students and I love Meetn, and I'm confident my fellow teachers will too after a bit of training.
Thank you very much for this excellent product.
