A really different tool
i like Socrates quite a bit. There are many of these types of programs out there touting to do the same thing- but i have found the output from Socrates to be more detailed and accurate than the rest. i really like the table creation feature! This is one of my favorite purchases!

This is the way!
I very much hope this brilliant tool gets the "love" it deserves!
It's true that the market is flooded with AI products right now, but there are a few things that stand out here and, I dare say, a content creator could get by with only this one. And maybe an image generator of your choice.
Here's why:
1. It can analyze and set of URL, docs and then let you query them for summaries, details, whatever. The depth of that initial analysis is under your control... go quick or in "deep dive" mode and it will impact how thoroughly your queries are returned.
2. It's not just a query tool, either. You can feed it content, like say, an outline, and then run a looped query against it. It can sequentially execute that query on each section or paragraph and it will assemble all the output in one place at the end. They call them Prompt Loops and these are a FANTASTIC way to generate a good, long blog post.
3. You can store your custom prompts.
4. It uses some excellent locally-installed models so, if you're interested in doing your work "offline" it's easily done.
5. OCR is included, so it will read a wide range of text with your inputs.
Some things to know:
- Deep Dive use is calculated on each page of input.
- Prompt Loop use is calculated on segments so, if you run it on an input that has six sections, it will use 6 of your quota.
Here are some things it doesn't have yet:
- folders, subfolders for quick access.
- search to find a past chat, which will get pretty unwieldy if you use it a lot.
I'm in for the ride, though. The limits are very fair, and the interface can probably be improved pretty quickly.

Awesome tool!
I'll be honest - an amazing tool!
I professionally read and analyze a ton of documents - several documents of several hundred pages each! Socrates makes it very easy to work, to find information. I am in the testing phase, but I will probably increase the Tier to the last <3
Pros:
- ability to attach multiple documents and analyze them all at once!
- it works quite efficiently (in the cloud, local I have not tested)
- you can communicate in different languages - even in a different language than the document
- minimalistic and sufficient UI
- ability to segment files (we can deselect several so that the chat analyzes only selected ones)
Areas for improvement:
1. better analysis of tables
2. ability to search phrases (CTRL+F / Search) across all documents (something like in Excel)
3. ability to save the entire chat to a PDF/txt file
4. better Deep Dive support for non-English language files - for example, Polish. When I do Summary, the answer appears a little in Polish (90%), a little in English (10%)
5. ability to do Deep Dive only for selected files, instead of all files loaded
6. better marking of parts of the document - now often the answer area (when you click on the numbering of the answer in the chat) does not match the actual occurrence - the beginning of the page is marked, when the answer is actually two pages away
7. analysis of graphic marks - I often have documents with check and X, it would be nice to take this into account during analysis
8. always confirm the answer received, sometimes it happens that I get something completely wrong - but this will probably be improved with the development of the software :)
At this point, Socrates has already helped me with a few analyses, a few exams (in text analysis) and I plan to use it every day! <3 <3 <3
One of the best purchases on AppSumo - as long as you work with more than one document at a time!
I recommend and keep my fingers crossed for development - keep developing, don't sell this software to anyone! Don't get swallowed up by commercialism! <3

Oct 23, 2024Thank you very much for the detailed review and areas of improvement. We will add many of these to the roadmap!
For better Deep Dive support on non-English files, could you try explicitly setting a language preference under your Account -> Your Plan & Settings? I believe it will be more consistent if set there.

No more Lazy AIs! (Afforai/NotebookLM+ on steroids)
Has a few bugs (sometimes you have to reload the page).
But immense potential. It gives more in depth analysis of texts than Google's NoteBookLM, Afforai, among other "Chat with your PDF" softwares through their DeepDive algorithm (which reformats text for AI to easily access more of the content - basically king of increases the context window of LLMs [large language models such as GPT4o, Claude 3.5] (at least from our user perspective)). This explains why it feels like it's an LLM PDF/Doc analyzer that has done its homework (AKA: AI on steroids)!
Vs. AfforAI - Socrates' interface is much quicker.
Vs. NoteBookLM - though it does not have actionable buttons with AI prompts (this would be very cool) nor its podcast feature, it gives more indepth analysis if prompted correctly.
Vs. OpenAI GPT4o or Anthropics 3.5 Sonnet - they often give "lazy answers". It is comparable with o1-preview's answers (o1 preview I think is better right now). There is no current BYOK on Socrates so for low context analysis o1-preview is definitely better.
The more LLMs improve, the more socrates will probably improve (if they replace the AI models).

Oct 22, 2024Amazing review. Thanks for doing the comparison, and noted about the actionable buttons with AI prompts -- this definitely seems useful.
